What is Milbank RC Hollowcore Plank Flooring? The Hollowcore plank system comprises of 225mm deep units in standard 600mm widths, designed in accordance with BS8110. A revolutionary computer controlled manufacturing process enables Milbank Floors to provide Hollowcore planks with the following features:
When used in domestic upper floors Hollowcore planks eliminate the problems associated with traditional timber floors: e.g. maintenance costs resulting from shrinkage of the timber and subsequent cracking of finishes. The benefits to the Homeowner are flexibility of design, elimination of squeaks, improved sound insulation between floors and the opportunity of incorporating block partition walls to further improve sound insulation between rooms. |

Over 1 million m² of Reinforced Hollowcore plank floors can be produced per year at Milbank's state of the art factory in East Anglia. This capacity ensures that Reinforced Hollowcore planks - (manufactured in 50mm length increments) - will always be available ex-stock, enabling Developers to reduce costs through faster construction. Milbank Reinforced Hollowcore planks are not cambered and are compatible with brick coursing. Milbank Reinforced Hollowcore planks can be supplied with insulation bonded to the soffit avoiding secondary works on site. By involving Milbank at an early stage, their qualified Engineers will ensure that the most cost effective Precast Concrete solution can be achieved. |

Milbank Reinforced Hollowcore floor planks are reinforced concrete elements with continuous longitudinal voids providing an efficient lightweight structural section. When grouted, the effective shear key between adjacent planks ensures that the individual planks behave similarly to a monolithic slab. Hollowcore floors may be used to produce a diaphragm to resist horizontal loadings either with or without a composite structural topping. Hollowcore floors supported on masonry or steel structures can be used in domestic, commercial and industrial applications. |

All the Precast units are designed to comply with the requirements of the Building Regulations. The standard Milbank Reinforced Hollowcore Plank sections are designed for moderate exposure conditions with long-term deflection criteria L/250. High tensile reinforcing bars are used to cater for varying spans and design loads. Standard Milbank Reinforced Hollowcore sections have a minimum fire resistance of 1 hour. Milbank are able to offer a variety of economical design solutions by combining their full range of reinforced and prestressed sections. |

Milbank Reinforced Hollowcore Planks are manufactured in an enclosed factory environment, wet-cast on steel moulds to a standard width. All materials used in the manufacturing process conform to the relevant British Standard for that material. Water reducing admixtures are used to achieve the correct workability. The floor planks are manufactured to stock lengths in 50mm increments, with plain open ends as standard. Holes are formed in the slabs after manufacture, the size and position depending on the design criteria. |

All units are manufactured to comply with the cross sectional tolerances set out in BS8110. Units are manufactured 225mm deep. The standard nominal width for all units is 600mm. Non-standard width units are formed by cutting the planks longitudinally. Floor layout drawings are based upon normal tolerances, and adjustment to the joint widths may be required to complete the floor area. |

Milbank will provide layout drawings for the floor units prior to manufacture. These drawings show the structure supporting the precast units, position of service entries etc, typical sections and the loads for which the floors are designed. |

Installation of Milbank Reinforced Hollowcore Planks is straightforward. The units are hoisted into position on the supporting structure by "Hiab" type lorry or mobile crane, and the joints are grouted up to form a monolithic floor. The completed floor provides an immediate working platform for following trades. Where required a structural concrete topping can be laid together with the joint infill to form a composite concrete floor to increase the strength of the flooring system. |

The joints between the units should be grouted with a minimum of 20N/mm2 concrete using a maximum aggregate size of 14mm. |
